Getting started

What do I need to use Resona?

You need a compatible Bluetooth heartrate sensor.

Many chest straps from brands such as Polar, Garmin, Wahoo and COOSPO are compatible, provided the specific model transmits RR-interval data over Bluetooth. Most optical wrist sensors do not transmit RR intervals and are therefore not supported.

Once Resona has learned your breathing rhythm, you can also complete sessions without a chest strap.

Do I need a subscription?

An active subscription is required to start new sessions. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled through your Apple Account.

How does Resona find my breathing rhythm?

For most of each session, Resona guides you at a fixed breathing rhythm. It then briefly tests a neighbouring rhythm before returning to the original one. This allows the two rhythms to be compared under similar conditions.

Factors such as sleep, stress, caffeine and exercise can affect your measurements from day to day. Resona therefore combines results from multiple sessions and only adjusts your guiding rhythm when the accumulated evidence consistently supports a change.

How often should I use Resona?

There is no fixed requirement. However, regular sessions give Resona more measurements to compare and help it build a more reliable picture of your breathing rhythm over time.

Sessions and measurements

Why couldn’t Resona measure my session?

Occasionally, the recorded signal does not contain enough reliable data to calculate your results. This may be caused by poor contact between the strap and your skin, movement, a dropped Bluetooth connection or insufficient usable data.

Resona only displays a metric when the underlying measurement meets its quality requirements. If the data is too uncertain, the metric is left out rather than showing a potentially misleading result.

Why is my breathing rhythm still the same after several sessions?

This is usually expected. Resona does not change your guiding rhythm based on a single session because normal day-to-day variation can affect the comparison.

Until Resona has collected enough consistent evidence to support a change, it will continue using your current rhythm and show that it is still learning.

Can I use Resona without my heart-rate strap?

Yes, once Resona has learned your breathing rhythm.

Until then, this option remains locked because Resona does not yet have a personalised rhythm to guide you at.

Sessions completed without a strap count towards your total sessions, minutes and streak. However, they do not record RR intervals, calculate physiological session metrics, affect your breathing rhythm or contribute to your Resona Score.

Subscription

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

In Resona, go to:

Settings → Subscription → Manage Subscription

You can also manage your subscription directly on your iPhone:

Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Resona

If you cancel, your subscription will normally remain active until the end of the current billing period.

How do I restore my subscription?

In Resona, go to:

Settings → Subscription → Restore Purchases

Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple Account that was used for the original purchase.

Your data

Will my history move to a new iPhone?

Resona does not provide cloud synchronisation or a server-side backup of your session history.

Your sessions, measurements and profile data are stored locally on your iPhone and are excluded from iCloud backup. As a result, your Resona history may not be available when you change, replace or reset your device.

Resona does not upload your health or session data to our servers, so we cannot recover or restore it for you.

Troubleshooting

My heart-rate strap won’t connect

  • Put the strap on so that it sits securely against your chest, and moisten the electrodes on the inside. Most straps remain inactive until they detect skin contact.

  • Make sure Bluetooth is enabled and that the strap is close to your iPhone.

  • Check whether the strap is actively connected to a sports watch, fitness machine or another app. Some straps support only one Bluetooth connection at a time.

  • Close other apps that may be using the strap, then reopen Resona and try again.

  • If the problem continues, the strap’s battery may need to be replaced or recharged.
